A Leap Day micro-site built from a domain I couldn’t resist.

  • Project type: Web experiment, micro-site, domain idea

  • Role: Concept, domain, prompt direction, site creation

  • Status: Live experiment

  • Website: https://02-29.com

  • Built with: ChatGPT Sites

  • Started: 2026

Snapshot

02-29.com is a small web experiment built around Leap Day, a date that only shows up once every four years.

I bought the domain because it felt too good not to exist. It was short, memorable, strange in the right way, and already carried a built-in concept. From there, the project became a simple question: what could live at a domain that only fully makes sense once in a while?

Using ChatGPT Sites, I was able to turn the idea into a live site quickly without treating it like a huge build. That was part of the point. 02-29.com is less about launching a full business and more about testing how fast a small idea can become a real web object.

What It Is

02-29.com is a Leap Day-themed micro-site.

The site plays with the idea of extra time: the odd bonus day that appears on the calendar every four years. It gives the domain a simple reason to exist while leaving room for the idea to evolve over time.

It could become a countdown, a collection of once-every-four-years prompts, a time capsule, or a small tradition that only becomes active around February 29. For now, it is a lightweight experiment in turning a memorable domain into something real.

Why I Built It

I like domains that feel like they already contain a story.

02-29.com has that quality. You see it and immediately understand there is something unusual about it. It is not a brand name that needs a long explanation. It is a date, a rhythm, and a concept all at once.

I also wanted to use this as a fast experiment with ChatGPT Sites. Instead of letting the domain sit unused, I wanted to see how quickly I could move from “this could be something” to an actual live site.

That speed matters. A lot of ideas die because the distance between concept and launch is too long. This project was a reminder that some ideas are worth making precisely because they are small.

What I Worked On

Concept

The central concept was already hiding in the domain: February 29.

The work was figuring out how much to build around it. Too little, and the site would feel unfinished. Too much, and it would lose the charm of being a tiny internet experiment.

The direction was to keep it focused on Leap Day, rare timing, and the feeling of having an extra day.

Website

The site needed to be simple enough to understand immediately.

Because the domain is the hook, the page does not need a complicated structure. It needs a clear visual signal, a little personality, and a reason for someone to stay for a moment.

ChatGPT Sites made it possible to move quickly from idea to working page. The project became a good example of using AI tools for speed, not just output: shaping the idea, testing the structure, and getting something live before overthinking it.

Domain

The domain is the project.

02-29.com works because it is short, exact, and unusual. It also creates a natural constraint: the site has to justify why this date matters.

That constraint is helpful. It gives the project a built-in creative lane and keeps the idea from spreading too wide.

Future Use

The site has room to become more participatory over time.

Possible directions include:

  • A countdown to the next Leap Day.

  • A prompt for what to do with an extra day.

  • A small time capsule to revisit every four years.

  • A list of strange calendar facts and rare dates.

  • A once-every-four-years message or ritual.

  • A place to collect Leap Day stories, birthdays, proposals, launches, and odd coincidences.

What I Learned

A small idea does not need to become a big product to be worth launching.

02-29.com reminded me that the web is still a good place for odd little things. Not everything needs to be optimized, monetized, or turned into a full brand system. Sometimes the right move is to make the thing because the idea has a pulse.

It also reinforced how useful AI tools can be for creative prototyping. The value was not just that ChatGPT helped build a page. The value was that it shortened the distance between curiosity and a live artifact.

A good domain can also act like a creative brief. 02-29.com already had the constraint, the tone, and the hook. The job was to listen to what the domain wanted to become.

Current State

02-29.com is live as a small Leap Day experiment.

The next phase is about deciding whether it should stay minimal or grow into something more interactive. I like the idea of keeping it lightweight, but adding one feature that gives people a reason to come back around the next February 29.

Possible next moves:

  • Refine the visual direction.

  • Add a countdown to the next Leap Day.

  • Create a simple “extra day” prompt generator.

  • Add a small time capsule feature.

  • Build a seasonal update for February 29.

  • Use the site as an example of fast AI-assisted prototyping.
